According to the US Census Bureau, Utah was the only state with more than 30% of its population in the 0-19 age group as of 2020. About 28% of Texas was under the age of 20 that year, making it the state with the second highest percentage of young people in its population. Idaho, Nebraska, and South Dakota round out the top five. Half of the top 10 states by young population percentage were in the Midwest.
Utah, Texas, and Idaho were also some of the states whose young population grew the most from 2000 to 2020. Only Nevada outpaced them, with an increase of 35.8% over that time.
