What is required to become a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI)?

Once you have obtained a Commercial Pilot’s License (CPL) and want to log hours towards getting ATP, earn more compensation for flying knowledge and/or to share the love of flying with others, you may want to become a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI). In addition to the CPL, the certificate requires passing a 100 question written test, an oral and skills test with a FAA-certified instructor, a 3rd Class Medical Certificate and 25 hours of flight time.

Jobs such as flight instruction, corporate pilot, agricultural pilot, banner towing, pipeline patrol, traffic reporting, and more require a commercial pilot certificate.
