What is an ATP Certification Training Program?
The ATP-CTP (Airline Transport Pilot Certification Training Program) is an essential step before taking the Airline Transport Pilot Knowledge Test (ATP Written). Pilot Certification and Qualification Requirements for Air Carrier Operations state that both pilots AND first officers have 1500 hours of flight time and hold an ATP certificate before being hired. Lower time allowances are granted with a restricted ATP certificate for some university graduates and military pilots.
Who administers ATP Certifications?
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) authorizes several dozen institutions and flight schools to award ATP CTP’s. Within the certification there are single engine, multi-engine and apprentice level recognition. An apprentice certificate or A-ATP is designated for students with less than 1500 flying hours.
